A Message from the Governor

Monday, June 05, 2006

It is has been my great honor to meet with Missourians who are serving the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan. During this trip, I conveyed the deep appreciation and support of the people of our state, including First Lady Melanie Blunt and me.

Missouri's troops are doing a tremendous job under dangerous and difficult circumstances in both countries. I was impressed again and again by their bravery, dedication, and professionalism. I was touched by their enthusiasm for serving the United States, helping make the region more secure by establishing democracy, and supporting the work of Iraqis and Afghanis to create a better life for themselves and their children.

I ask that you join me in remembering our men and women in your prayers and that you call on the Creator to provide them with victory and success and to bring each home safely to their loved ones.

Sincerely,

Matt Blunt

Note: The Governor visited troops in Iraq and Afghanistan in a three-member bipartisan delegation. The delegation's itinerary included meetings with troops in the field, American commanders, and foreign leaders.

Gov. Blunt is a 1993 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He served for five years on active duty upon graduation and is a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Reserves. He was the first statewide elected official in Missouri history to be called into active duty, following the September 11, 2001, attacks on the U.S.
