Governor Blunt Stops State Contractor Employing Dozens of Illegal Workers
Thursday, March 08, 2007
|
Governor Blunt has sent a clear message to all state contractors: We will not tolerate employers who unlawfully employ workers at the expense of honest, hard-working citizens!
On March 6, the Governor announced that he has eliminated a state contract that was set up under Gov. Holden's administration with a janitorial company employing nearly two dozen suspected illegal immigrants. Gov. Blunt has barred the company from doing any further business with the state.
The suspected illegal workers were detained by authorities Wednesday night. After questioning, illegal immigrants will be transported to Kansas City and returned to their home countries.
Additionally, Gov. Blunt issued an executive order directing state agencies to review all contractors to verify that employees are eligible to work in the U.S. If a company employs illegal immigrants, its contract with the state will be eliminated immediately. The Governor also has ordered tough new provisions be included in all future state contracts to ensure that Missouri only does business with those operating under the rule of law.
Check out this report from KY3 in Springfield and this one from FOX News on the Governor's action to stop state contractors who employ illegal workers.
