Governor Blunt Protects Taxpayer Dollars by Vetoing Excessive Spending Bill

Today Governor Blunt stood up for Missouri taxpayers and their hard-earned dollars by vetoing legislation that was filled with excessive spending and projects that are not in the best interest of Missourians.

The bill had some strong economic development tools, including funding to expand the Quality Jobs Act that the Governor created in 2005, which has been directly responsible for the creation of more than 12,500 quality jobs that provide health benefits and good wages. Governor Blunt said he is willing to call a special legislative session to pass a bill that respects the taxpayers and promotes job growth in Missouri.

"There is no difference between spending taxpayer dollars by appropriations, and spending them by tax credits. Each should meet the same test of fiscal responsibility," Governor Blunt said.
